No, we’re not giving away actual dinosaur bones, we’ve got tickets to see the very fantastic band of the same name at the Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto. If you want to go see Dinosaur Bones, Young Rival and Prussia next Thursday (February 2nd) , keep yourself glued to our Twitter or Facebook page.
When we ask what your favourite dinosaur is, the first person to reply (on either page) will win two spots on the guestlist to the show. And just to make things slightly challenging, we will only accept the names of actual dinosaurs – so no, Raptor Jesus does not count.
Good luck!

Tune in today (November 21st) at 6PM (ET) to hear an interview with Douglas Lavin, the John L. Loeb Associate Professor of the Humanities, Department of Philosophy at Harvard University. He recently spoke at U of T’s Centre for Ethics ‘Ethics at Noon Seminar Series’ where ‘Begging The Question’ hosts Ben and Spencer caught up with him.

Listen in to hear him discuss (among other things) the state of Philosophy in the 21st century. This could very well be the most fascinating interview you’ll hear all year on CFRE, so don’t miss out!

Things keep coming up Corey Belford I guess; today, November 9th, he’ll be interviewing the band Huddle at 10:30 AM. This band’s been getting tons of hype, so tune in and see what all the fuss is about. Also, don’t forget to check out Corey’s recent interview with GWAR frontman Oderus Urungus (Dave Brockie).

Today we’ve got an interview with Toronto’s The Darcys. The interview will be hosted (as usual) by Corey Belford. Tune in at 12 PM to hear it!

CFRE DJ Corey Belford interviewed Mike from Hamilton ON’s favourite sons, the Arkells, via telephone a couple weeks ago, and we have the audio from the interview right here. Download it and listen to it right now!

Tune in at 2 PM today to listen to our very own Corey Belford interview shock rock band GWAR. We could only do this interview over the phone because otherwise the band would try to devour Corey. So, for his safety we insisted he remain safe inside our studio, far from the hungry claws of GWAR. Still, GWAR’s desire to destroy all humans should make for a pretty interesting interview! Don’t forget to tune in at 2 PM today!

This past week, CFRE staff members and a few DJs went to New York City to attend CMJ’s Music and Film Marathon, and to take in the sights of the city, eat the food, and maybe do some shopping too. CFRE attended tons of showcases, saw dozens of acts all across the city and drank everything along the way.

Some CFRE favourite acts from CMJ this year include Dum Dum Girls, Electric Guest, We Barbarians, Neon Indian, Kid Savant, Canadian electro-pop duo Purity Ring, the ever-entertaining Datarock, and twin-sister-duo Nina Sky, who were gracious enough to pose for pictures with a few star-stricken staff members.

Some favourite shopping stops were Forever21 in Times Square (that apparently never closes… or is open late enough to shop after we left the venues) and TopShop’s TopMan. Popular food choices were Shake Shack, and Katz’s Delicatessen (serving corned beef sandwiches the size of your head!), and our favourite party was The Fader Fort, sponsored by Fiat and (most importantly) Bushmill’s Irish Whiskey.

There’s really nothing else to be said about CMJ or New York City; you just had to be there.

On October 19th, CFRE DJ Corey Belford will be interviewing one of CFRE’s favourite bands, the Arkells, via telephone (and a landline, at that!). This is the fourth time CFRE’s had an opportunity to chat with the Arkells, and we could not be more pleased. Tune in at 12:15PM to catch the interview, and if you need something to tide you over until then, read the transcript of the last time we talked to the Arkells right here.

CFRE Staff (present and past) and will make their yearly migration to New York City this week for the annual CMJ Music Marathon & Film Festival. Described as “Comic Con but for College Radio” by CFRE’s Music Director Jess Pham, CMJ runs Tuesday October 18th to Sunday October 23rd, and features over 1300 musical acts and tons of film premieres.
We’ll take lots of pictures just to show you, because we know you’re going to want to see them! We’ll talk next week!

Unfortunately, Justin Hines had to cancel his in-studio interview, but we’re working on rescheduling.

Pearl Jam Twenty CFRE is proud to bring you a FREE screening of the brand new Pearl Jam documentary, Pearl Jam Twenty. Directed by Cameron Crowe (Almost Famous, Say Anything), the film documents Pearl Jam’s twenty years of existence. PJ20 is playing in only THREE Canadian cities; but CFRE is bringing it right here to UTM’s campus. Consider it a must-see for any fan of the band, or any fan of music in general.

We’re hosting it at the MiST Theatre (for directions to the MiST Theatre, visit Contact Us and view the map at the bottom of the page). We’ll be giving away some pretty sweet prizes, but we can’t tell you what they are just yet, but you’ll definitely want to be there. So grow your beard out, wear some flannel and show up on the 12th ready to rock out.

CFRE recently hosted Shad, Born Ruffians, Lucie Tic and GuSHee live in concert as part of UTM’s Orientation week. Hundreds of new UTM students had the opportunity of seeing these great acts live right here on campus. They were also treated to free freezies (we called them CFR-eezies – get it? Pretty clever, right?). Needless to say, great fun was had by all.

We’ll have a huge Flickr album full of pictures from the day up very soon, so keep checking back!
